During his vacation in Fiji, an eight-year-old boy from Australia passed away from what is believed to be an electrocution.

The family has identified the child as Cairo Winitana, and they say he is from Sydney. He was with his parents at the Club Wyndham Denarau Island Resort, which is located on the western coast of the main island of Fiji.

On Thursday, local police in Fiji reported that he was discovered lying “motionless” close to a flower garden at the hotel.

He was taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Nadi, but the medical staff were unable to bring him back to life.

Initial information gathered suggests that the child may have been electrocuted; however, this will need to be confirmed by the post-mortem, according to the Fiji police.

They went on to say that although the boy was a New Zealand citizen, he lived in Australia. According to a spokeswoman for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the government agency is providing assistance to the family.

His mother, Amber de Thierry, wrote a post on Facebook in which she expressed her love for her son and said, “I loved you my son from the moment I found out I was carrying you and will love you forever more.”

An online fundraiser for the family’s medical expenses that was set up by a relative stated that the family now faced “the heart breaking job” of bringing their son back to Australia.

“As all of you might be able to imagine, this is a very significant loss for our family.”

In a Facebook post paying tribute to Cairo, the Milperra Colts, the club for which he played, described him as “a shy, tough little kid who loved his footy.” Cairo will be remembered as “a shy, tough little kid who loved his footy.”

The death was described as a “tragic accident” by a spokesperson for the resort, who also offered their “heartfelt condolences” to the family of the deceased.

A spokesperson for the resort stated that they would conduct a thorough investigation and fully cooperate with the relevant authorities, including the police and local authorities.

Denarau Island is located approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) to the north-west of Nadi, which is Fiji’s third-largest city. The island is well-known for its high-end resorts and hotels.
