RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — RANCHO CUCAMONGA Authorities said on Wednesday that actor Julian Sands has been missing for five days in the mountains of Southern California, where he was hiking. Julian Sands has starred in a number of films that have been nominated for Academy Awards, including “A Room With a View.”
Gloria Huerta, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, stated that Sands, 65 years old, was reported missing on Friday as she was hiking on a path on Mt. Baldy.
Search and rescue crews looked for Julian Sands in the San Gabriel Mountains, which are located approximately 40 miles northeast of the downtown area of Los Angeles. However, they were forced to call off the ground search on Saturday due to dangerous trail conditions and avalanche risks, and they have not been able to resume it since then, according to Huerta.
Authorities have stated that they are using helicopters and drones to search for Sands whenever the weather permits them to do so, and that they will resume their search on the ground as soon as it is safe to do so.
Following his accident with a snow blower, Jeremy Renner underwent surgery and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
On Friday, the most recent storm in a string of storms that have created hazardous mountain conditions blew over Southern California and lingered through the weekend. Two more hikers passed away not too long ago in this region.
Representatives for Sands, an actor who was born in the United Kingdom and currently resides in North Hollywood, did not immediately respond to emails asking for comment or further information.
