The district court in Warsaw, Poland, ruled Piotr A. responsible for Aleksandra Sadowska’s permanent impairment after she had her eyes tattooed there in 2017.
A young woman’s eye tattoo went horribly wrong, leaving her blind, according to evidence presented in court in Poland.
The artist who mishandled the procedure has now been fined by the court.
In April 2017, Aleksandra Sadowska visited a Warsaw, Poland, tattoo parlour she discovered online to have the whites of her eyes inked in black. She informed the local media at the time of the tattooing that she had always desired tattooed eyes since she felt they complemented her features.
However, it was reported that the careless eye tattoo artist, who was only given the name Piotr A. in court, used an ink that was not approved for use on eyes and poked the eyeball too deeply.
The artist was deliberately chosen by Aleksandra, who was 21 at the time, since he had a solid track record of doing the same inking on other people.
The tattoo artist had dozens of these treatments in his portfolio, she noted at the time. That’s what he claimed, at least. “Then it was revealed to be false. Additionally, he asserted that he had medical training, which is highly dubious.
But problems started to arise almost almost away. The 21-year-old went on to acquire extensive cataracts and glaucoma. She then had three procedures, but unhappily none of them much improved her vision.
She had to have an implant inserted in one eye, and she can no longer see anything out of the other eye save a shimmering, formless light.
Aleksandra filed a lawsuit against the eye tattoo parlour now, almost six years later.
