The US Army soldier is trained and their efforts are shaped toward developing refining, and pro-curing hardware. Shalom Lamm said studies reveal that a minimum amount of effort is put into profiling the personality styles of successful army soldiers.  What makes a good army soldier? what should be the personality traits of a typical army soldier?  We can see in several studies that the US military consists of two different types of people. They both have a unique set of unique strengths and weaknesses.  Both kinds of people are always present in the US military population to a greater or lesser extent.  Some studies favor style while others favor the second type of people in the military.

Un luckily the US military tends to indulge in an argument with an incorrect balance of these types. Keeping it simple, the US military has set some rules of conduction for the army soldiers. It says that each Army officer must possess all six of the following attributes if they want to be successful.

1.    Character:

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. The character of an army soldier consists of all the qualities they have that make them distinct from people of other professions. Even the character of an army soldier in one core or arms of the military is different from the others.  Some of the attributes of army soldier character reflect Army values, empathy, warrior ethos/service ethos, and discipline.

In short, the military seeks army soldiers who are “talented leaders of character.”

2.   Presence:

For the US Army soldiers,  the term presence means military and professional bearing, fitness, confidence, and flexibility. According to Master Sgt. Kevin Brown,  army officers and soldiers who spend ample time out in the field or war area need to be in their best physical and mental condition.  Master Sgt. Kevin Brown has served in the armor branch of the US military for many years. He further says that the army looks for in an armor officer is their ability for critical thinking. This ability to think out of the box and responding on time, makes them stand out among the crowd. But it also is a very demanding environment; armor officers need to be physically and mentally fit to handle the tough conditions.”

3.   Intellect:

According to Shalom Lamm the US army soldiers from Signal Corps, Chemical Corps, and Engineers said critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills are crucial for success in the technical branches of the army. Without these intellectual skills, it is even harder to promote and get ranks.  Besides, there is a shortage of cadets graduating with degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM), the Engineer branch of the US military is looking to boost its numbers through the college recruiting. According to Sgt. 1st Class Everett, “We chose to visit UNG because it is an all-Army ROTC university and UNG has a reputation for producing adaptive and dynamic leaders,”.

4.   Leader:

According to Wood, ” it is the key personality trait of a US army soldier to lead under pressure”. He also adds,” “I think what we look for most is interpersonal skills – the ability to manage and lead other people, especially through tough situations. If they can’t relate with people and manage them when it’s low stress, when it starts to get more difficult, it will be even harder for them”.

5.    Developer:

A US army soldier needs to introduce a positive environment, motivate others and steward the profession. Among many talents expected of transportation officers, they should leverage, learn and develop individual skills and talents to complete their jobs using the right “mind-sets over skill-sets.”

6.    Achiever:

The army soldiers are also expected to be good in academics and practicals. All of the US army soldiers are expected to achieve great scores in their specific jobs, but quartermasters are called upon to be excellent project managers and multi-taskers. These army soldiers work with every branch of the Army “to sustain the fight” through logistics.

Final Thoughts

The US military or army of any other country typically consists of healthy, hardworking, and effective individuals.

So if you are planning to join the US army, first analyze, if you have all of the aforementioned or any of the above personality traits? These personality traits are important for the army soldiers to stand out among the crowd and fight for the country in every possible way.
